In a concerning development, 76 individuals, including minors, have been charged with treason following the protests in August. This situation has sparked outrage and alarm across the nation, highlighting the urgent need for a compassionate response to our youth in crisis.

In a press statement released yesterday, Mr. Seth Francis, the Coordinator and Convener of YOUTH O’CLOCK NIGERIA, addressed the situation with the following remarks:

“I feel compelled to call for clemency for these young individuals. The gravity of the charges they face—treason—could lead to severe consequences that threaten their futures. These minors are not just statistics; they are the future of our nation, deserving of understanding and support rather than punishment.”

Subjecting young people to such harsh allegations not only jeopardizes their lives but also reflects a broader societal failure to engage and nurture our youth. Many of these minors may have been influenced by misguided elements, acting out of a desire for change and a voice in their community.
