A record label according to Wikipedia is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. Sometimes, a record label is also a publishing company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos; also conducting talent scouting and development of new artists
Music artists over the years have traditionally been reliant on record labels to promote and market their art on radio,tv,and streaming platforms
A recording company can be a major label, a sub label, a vanity label or an independent label.

Advantages of a record deal
1. Massive publicity
A record label can put your work out for the world to see. They make it possible for your art to be in the eyes and ears of the right people no matter who or where they are! Using radio,T.V and other online platforms they publicise your music thereby  increasing your fan base.

2. Better quality
Every artist would like to have thier video shot by clarence! Everybody would love to work with top class producers like legendry beats or don jazzy.
A record label can help you get the best music and video producers on your projects. They can make the best personnel available at your beck and call, isn’t that cool!  Making your work more receptible to a wider audience! Nobody wants to listen to a poorly produced song or a badly directed video. Record labels can add a touch of class and proffessionallism to an artist’s work
In conclussion a record label can change your music career in no small way!
However record labels also have their

Disadvantages:
1. Too much competition;
A lot of major labels sign a lot of musicians and throw out a lot of music, just to see which will be a big hit . As a new signing, except in very special circumstances, you’re likely to find yourself fighting for attention. If your music doesn’t start selling, after your first few releases, then you can find yourself with a record out that isn’t getting much promotion. In other words you may become a side act, which means less money is invested in promoting your songs or shooting your videos!
2.Money problems
Some record labels aren’t as big as they claim to be, many record labels do not have the money to fund large scale careers. This can be quite frustrating for the artist, as you have a record label making money off you but not doing any much to help your career. Nigerian artist Skales had the same problems with his record label baseline sometime in 2016.

Now, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of record labels  explained what do you think? Do you really need them as an artist?? The decision is yours to make anyway I rest my case here, pen drops!
