Press Statement: SDP Not Part Of CUPP's Endorsement Of Atiku

On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), an umbrella platform of over 45 major opposition political parties in Nigeria, announced the adoption of the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the consensus candidate of the coalition for the 2019 presidential election.

It is important to reiterate that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is a bonafide member of CUPP with its individual right to field a candidate for the forthcoming presidential election in February, 2019.

For the avoidance doubt, SDP is not and will not be part of the arrangement for the consensus candidature of the PDP candidate as His Excellency Donald Duke remains our presidential candidate for the same election.

CUPP’s criteria of national acceptability, financial muscle, spread of political party, leadership capacity, international acceptability, experience, capacity to rebuild the economy, capacity to secure the country and unite all Nigerians among other factors used to pick Atiku Abubakar, are also possessed by our candidate, Mr. Donald Duke.

Therefore, SDP is poised to conduct a robust and issues-based presidential campaigns in every nooks and crannies of the country with the belief that it will win the hearts of Nigerians for a new Nigeria.
